Web development on an iPad Pro
I recently picked up a new iPad Pro 10.5 inch after having been an Android only tablet user for many years, and since the new iPad Pro is performance wise almost as powerful as a MacBook Pro I thought I’d try out using it for various work related tasks to see how far it’ll take me.
So far, I’ve been able to do almost everything I want, such as image editing (PS Express, Affinity Photo, Snapseed), photo management (Lightroom), writing (Bear, Evernote), office (Microsoft Office, iWork), and more.
Everything works fairly well, except for one major thing – programming, specifically web development.
No task runners
There are some pretty decent code editors available (Textastic and Coda).
However, the problem is that I can’t use task runners such as Gulp and Grunt and I completely depend on these for most of my coding work.
In order to use these, I would need to be able to install Node.js and use it from a command-line interface, which I don’t believe is possible.
It might yet be possible to do this with a Jailbreak, but I haven’t been able to explore this.
So, for now, I’ll give up on trying to do coding work on my iPad.
Although, I might still be able to use it for code reviews and for trying out new code where I don’t need task runners.
